The series was born when I learned about the unlikely escapes from the death trains heading for the concentration camps in Eastern Europe.
Even though their numbers are small, some of the condemned found ways to open the cars before reaching Auschwitz, Sobibor or Theresienstadt.
Some ended up fighting in the Polish resistance. Based on true events, Beyond the Tracks tells the story of a man who risked everything to save his friend from certain death.
For most of the unfortunates reaching Auschwitz, their journey often ended hours after arrival.
Some, however, were put to work in the camp. Of those, a small number decided to fight back, to rise up against their SS overseers.
